Dealing with death differently…

OMDB stands for ‘Over My Dead Body’. OMDB is a Smörgåsbord production and marks the studio’s third standalone venture. Dreamt up whilst walking through Paris’ famed Père Lachaise Cemetery in 2010, OMDB deals with death differently. A personal consulting service, established and launched on November 2, 2018 — the Day of the Dead — OMDB removes the stigma surrounding the conversation of death and dying by creating compelling artworks that celebrate life.

Brief—

Our self-penned brief had craft and sensitivity at its root. Death is of course a subject to be taken seriously so it was key to strike the right balance of wit and intrigue. The tongue-in-cheek brand name had to be offset with the level of professionalism and craft that underpins the OMDB service.

Approach—

OMDB help their clients design how they choose to be remembered. Whether their wish is to work with a world-class sculptor, artist, architect, or landscape architect — OMBD creatively directs this process, bringing the combined vision to life. We felt that commissioning scraperboard illustrations (works of art in themselves) would reflect the venture’s artistic merit whilst explaining how OMDB works in an approachable and relevant manner. The word marque is informed by lettering cut into a zinc mausoleum door at the Parisian cemetery — the ‘birthplace’ of the brand.

Result—

Current commissions include an oversized marble surfboard for a pro surfer and a compelling creation for a chess master.
